Veneer frustration

One of the difficult things with a project of this size is that it requires multiple sheets of veneer. In this case, I needed 5. I ordered them and specifically asked to have them "matched" which means they are selected from sheets made from the same log, and should be almost identical.

That is not what I got. As you can see from this photo, these two sheets are very different in color. The darker sheet matches the coloring of the solid rosewood I am using on this project. The lighter sheet isn't even close.

The really disappointing thing is that the lighter sheet is from the second order, meant to replace 2 unacceptable sheets from the first order!

So, now I'm waiting to hear if the supplier is willing to or even able to do anything about this, or if I'll have to stain the light sheets to match the darker ones.

Very frustrating.
