Rough in begins

Yesterday wasn't very exciting. I finished cutting up the 3/4" plywood, so now the shop is filled with stacks of parts.

Today the electricians start roughing in the wiring. The plan is to rework the wiring exposed by removing the bulkhead. It will need to be routed inside the ceiling and walls. The 220V lines for both the old ovens will be moved and reused for the new oven and cooktop. Wiring will be added for under cabinet lights, new lights over the new island and pendant lights over the peninsula.

Originally, there was a single light over the sink. Once the bulkhead was removed, I discovered a ceiling joist runs directly over the sink preventing one light from being centered over the sink. Instead, 2 smaller units will be located over the sink to give plenty of light and a balanced look.

While all that is happening, I'll be back in the shop. Now that the blanks have been cut out, they need to prepped. That means drilling holes for shelf pins, cutting notches for toe kicks and hanging rails, cutting biscuit slots, etc. This is the tedious part most people take for granted, but which takes most of the time.
