Since my last post, things have been progressing as expected. I've delivered all the wall cabinets and assembled the face frames for the corner cabinets and tall cabinets, which I'm staining today. Monday will begin the assembly of those units.
That will be an interesting challenge. Since the three tall cabinets will stand 107" tall, taller than my shop ceiling, I won't be able to stand them up at any point during their assembly.
Since these cabinets are also taller than standard plywood sheets are long, I'll be using some creative splicing to put them together. I'll be utilizing some new fasteners from Lamello, combined with careful planing to conceal the seams in the finished kitchen.
This is one of the features of a custom cabinet over a factory cabinet. In nearly 14 years in the business, I've never seen a factory cabinet or panel made more than 96" tall. The normal practice is to stack cabinets on top of each other, which creates noticeable seams and gaps due to imperfections in the construction. The seams are usually covered using molding, but the effect always looks like a cover up. My goal on this project is to avoid such an issue.
